San Francisco has been great. It's good to see so many old friends and catch up on my dose of rock and roll for awhile. Track Star were in good form last night. A pleasant rush of the past. And the people were giong crazy for the old time feeling.

The California weather is pretty great as well. Napping in the grass at Golden Gate Park after an ice cream cone at the beach was a highlight. The smell of Eucalyptus wafting through the abandoned horse stalls near the soccer fields came a close second.

I am putting up a new song, Live Together, Die Alone. I recorded it at home in my studio, Terra Incognita, in December and January. It is being released on the Pop Tomorrow Compilation VOL. 1. You can purchase the compilation through that link at the Tender Loving Empire site. This is the first new song of a whole slew that I have been recording that is actually ready for release. This is far more representitive of what I am writing lately. And, more true to what my live performances are like.

The Valentines Show for the Compilation record release has been move to May 12th at the Hawthorne Theater Balcony. I don't think that I am on this bill. I will post a correction if I hear otherwise.

Happy spring... It is looking pretty out there all cherry blossoms and daffodils.

A couple of upcoming shows here in Portland. The first one up is Thursday, March 29th at Mississippi Studios with Nick Jania and Molly Rose. I am excited to be performing at the Mississippi Studios. It's a great place to see the quiet stuff. The show starts at 8 pm.

Next I am performing at Valentines on Friday the 13th of April an interesting show. It is the book/CD release show for Patrick Elkins, Ink on Dreams of Transient Architecture. Also performing are Ah Holly Fam'ly and Arland Nicewander.

I was kindly asked to open for a rare Track Star show in San Francisco on April 26th at the Hemlock Tavern. This will surely be awesome. Can't wait to see old friends and make some hard memories.

After this I will be performing with a bunch of folks at Valentines again for the Pop Tomorrow compilation record release. This will be on either May 1st or 2nd. Check back for details. Performing will be Tractor Operator, Stuart Valentine, Marc Manning, Stephen Kozik and myself. This is being released on Tender Loving Empire .

I am adding a new song to the website. It will surely fully blow your mind. It would blow mine but you cannot blow a blown mind.

: : : : ABOUT : : : :

Sitting up in bed late at night it's easy to let your mind drift to those chance encounters, long glances, a mouth agape prepared to speak gone silent with fear, and think of what might have been. How different your life would have been if only . . . My songs tend to drift into me in a simiilar fashion. I didn't ask them to come. They were already there. All I have to do be still long enough for them to invent themselves. The characters in my songs are mostly conglomerations of myself and people that I know and things I have seen. Sometimes it's the only way I know how to communicate.

I have deep love for 60's soul - Brenda Holloway's "All Your Love"; classic folk like The Strawbs, Tim Buckley and Bert Jansch; American singers like Townes Van Zandt and Gene Clark. Somewhere those sounds all find common ground in the quiet, intense and unironic connection they forge with the listener.

I have been writing and recording songs by myself and with friends since the early 1990's. I have played in bands such as Pivot, Track Star, Bangarang, Sleepyhead, Honeybunch, and others. I have been lucky to have shared the stage with such fine musicians as Yo La Tengo, Mountain Goats, Elliott Smith, Rose Melberg, Cat Power and once had a show taken over by Wesley Willis in Austin in 1995. (Supposedly, there was a video of this, and I am sure that it is frightfully, painfully funny.)
