The shows in California have been going swimmingly. Thanks you to everyone who came out and supported me and gave me whiskey and bought records. Speaking of records... I have a new EP that I released this past week. This is the Wavelab Sessions EP that I recorded at Wavelab down in Tucson, AZ in 2004. This was recorded with Rachel Blumberg, Nick Luca, Chris Giambelluca and many others. This is a limited edition release with hand-screened cover and art by the lovely Claudia Brown. She is making art for all three EPs and I will be releasing the other two EPs (Marlborough Farms Sessions EP and Type Foundry Sessions EP) in this format as well. I am releasing about 200 or so of each EP. You can order the new EP here. Currently the Type Foundry Sessions EP, which was released in 2002, will not be available, as I have sold out of them. It will be available again in a month or so when I release the hand-screened version of it.
Last night I performed with Laura Gibson at the Hotel Utah in San Francisco. It was a real treat to see her on the road with Cory Gray. The arrangements of her songs were excellent with just the two of them.
I want to thank Sean Harrasser, Jed Brewer and Adam Goldman for playing the last few shows with me as well. It was kind of them to ask me down to play these shows.
I will be in San Francisco this week recording with Alicia Vanden Heuval and Dan Lee over at Jason Quever's place. And then on Thursday I will be performing at Adobe books before heading back to Portland.
When I return to Portland I will be performing at the Acme on February 9th. Dylan McConnell made this beautiful flyer for the show...

I hope the new year has been good to you. I personally am happy to see 2006 in my rearview mirror.
I have some shows in California coming up later this month. Chico, Sacramento, and San Francisco as of now. Possibly more to follow. I am working on LA and San Diego shows as well.
Then I have a show in Portland on February 9th at Acme when I return. Show details below.
Angelo De Ieso II of Pop Tomorrow has kindly asked me to offer a track for the Pop Tomorrow compilation. I just finished mixing the track titled Live Together, Die Alone. The Pop Tomorrow comp will be coming out on Jared Mees' label Tender Loving Empire.

I have been loving haikus lately. Basho said it best when he wrote:
"Even in Kyoto - Hearing the cuckoo's cry - I long for Kyoto"
Even in Portland, I miss Portland. Winter is here and the time is right for closing the doors up and walking into the basement for a couple of months and doing whatever it is you do.
I am trying to put together a few shows in the bay area in late January. I am playing a couple of shows in Sacramento and Chico on the 26th and 27th of January (details to follow). As it stands, I am likely going to be playing a small show at Adobe Books in San Francisco the week of the 29th, but that is all so far.
Have a good holiday.

Ah fall, sweet fall. This is my time of year. I looked out my window this morning as I was washing the dishes from the previous night and saw maple leaves drifting slowly past my window while "Coldest Night Of The Year" was playing out my speakers. Having moved recently I find comfort in my new home sheilding me from all that fall and winter has in store for me. I would love to tempt fate by yelling out my window, "Bring it on old man winter!", but I fear biting off more than I can chew and looking like a total ass in front of my new neighbors.
Whip and I will be co-hosting Barbabra Mitchell's Cocktail Hour at the White Eagle on November 8th. This is a local songwriter's showcase where a group singers will be performing a few songs. This is a great introduction to a varied group of songwriters. And it's free. Artists will include Peter Broderick (from Horsefeathers), Brooke Hogan, Train Go Sorry, Kenneth (moving here from NY a few days before), Shicky Gnarowitz. There may be a few more and details may change a bit (like Kenneth's last name. . . ).
Then, on the 9th of November, Whip and I will be performing a proper show at Valentine's. We both have been working on lots of new material. I recently got the opportunity to record a song with Jason and Tony. I am a lucky dude as their new songs are just lovely.

I was recently asked to perform at the Halleluwah Festival here in sunny Portland, OR. It will be happening September 1st and 2nd and should be a fine time. Buy tickets soon if you want to attend as it will be sold out and it will be great. The likes of Vashti Bunyan, Deerhoof, Golden Bears, Whip, Dengue Fever and many, many more.
I played a show recently at the Acme that was a part of Angelo De Ieso's Pop Tomorrow series. It was fun.

I just added a show at Valentines on Saturday, April 22nd. The great musicains Matthew Hattie Hein and Whip will also be performing.

I was asked to submit my 10 influential music selections for Dusted Magazines "Listed" feature that they publish once a week. You can peruse my list here.

Been getting to know the limitations of my compressors and mic-pre's. Frustrations and coffee keep me busy with research. I discovered the best music video and song in recent memory. Leave it to Dan Treacy to make a song about "all the young childeren on crack" something to be jubilent about.

I started recording the new record finally. I am pretty excited to start moving on it. Since my main resource right now is time, I will be recording, mostly, at home.
I have been listening to a handful of Matthew Hattie Hein songs that will probably never see the light of day again if Matthew has anything to do with it. So I will post one here (disabled). I won't leave it up for long, so, enjoy.
01.23.06
I added a discography page with all kinds of links and downloads. I wouldn't say that it it will blow you mind or anything. . . but it might.
01.20.06
The new website is up and running. It's been a while in the process. Hopefully this is a bit streamlined from it's past incarnations. Any problems or questions please feel free to contact me.
I currently find myself with lots of time on my hands. I am hoping to make some headway on the new record that I have been working on for the last year. That being said, if you need a piano, banjo, guitar, glockenspiel, jews harp, string arrangements, whatnot on your epic, folk freak out, I am your man.
01.01.06
Hope everyone had a new year.
